5 million shoppers online on Christmas Day
How do you usually spend Christmas day?
With the family, cooking the turkey and waiting for the Queen’s speech….
…Or shopping online?
This year it is estimated a massive 5.24 million shoppers will go online on the 25th December, spending a combined total of £103.6 million. The IMRG predict that people are likely to go log-on to snap up early sales bargains. Last year a massive £84million pounds was spent on Christmas day, and this year’s figures are set to increase because of the higher profile sales, and also because of the rise in popularity of pre-paid cards and gift vouchers.
Christmas day shoppers spend an average of £20 each, and stores with online fulfillment are likely to be most popular. Amazon and iTunes are just 2 stores expected to see a brisk trade on Christmas day, with people receiving mp3 players and phones for Christmas buying downloadable content such as music and games.
And fear not, if you don’t get what you want this year!
The IMRG also report that 27th December is ebay's busiest day for listings – last year 2 million unwanted Christmas gifts were listed for sale on the site!
