Call Handler Guilty of Betting Fraud
A call handler for a large utilities company has been found guilty of betting fraud at Leicester Crown Court.
Shalim Alibhai would write down the credit and debit card numbers of callers whilst taking their bill payments. He then passed these details onto a friend who used them to open accounts with a large online betting company.
Once the betting accounts were opened, they were used to withdraw cash of up to £200 at a time. The total fraud amounted to £9,200 with 26 withdrawls made over a period of time.
Mr Alibhai pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation and will serve a 26 week suspended sentence and complete 120 hours community service.
